The carat weight in each ring's name is the total diamond weight. A solitaire carries all of it in the center stone. Rings with side stones split it across several diamonds, so they cost less at the same total weight.

How big a 1 carat marquise looks

A 1 carat marquise measures about 10 × 5mm. A 1 carat round measures about 6.5mm across. Prongs at each point hold the tips of the diamond securely.

Setting styles

This page has solitaire, east-west, cathedral, side-stone, three-stone and half-eternity rings. An east-west setting turns the marquise sideways across the finger. A three-stone ring adds a smaller diamond on each side.
