The carat weight in each ring's name is the total diamond weight. A solitaire carries all of it in the center stone. Rings with side stones split it across several diamonds, so they cost less at the same total weight.

How big a 1 carat oval looks

A 1 carat oval measures about 7.7 × 5.7mm. A 1 carat round measures about 6.5mm across. The longer outline reads as a bigger stone on the hand and makes the finger look slimmer.

Setting styles
